Irish Soda Bread

This Irish Soda Bread is some of the most basic bread you can make. There are no fancy-schmancy ingredients in it. Flour(s), sugar, salt, baking soda, and buttermilk are all you need. What's even better is that by using a kitchen scale, you can substitute in whatever flour mixture you like. (I used 150g potato starch, 100g brown rice flour, 100g white rice flour, 100g sorghum flour.) I also love that it doesn't require yeast since yeast tends to trigger migraines for me.

  1. Oh! I didn't realize that yeast is a migraine trigger for you. I learned something today.

  2. I like this recipe, but I also have one that uses sour cream instead of buttermilk. It is also quite tasty. :)

  3. @Ms. Knipicky: I've realized it more since being GF since I don't eat yeast on a regular basis. The few times I've made yeasty breads I've ended up with migraines pretty quickly.

  4. Basically it is what you've got, but you up the baking soda a bit and put in the equivalency of sour cream. It makes for a thicker, denser bread.
